Although often overlooked, the piping system can make a huge impact on the total cost and performance of a compressed air system; the wrong piping can reduce air delivery/flow rates, increase energy consumption, and create corrosion that can damage downstream equipment & instrumentation or even contaminate end-products.
Plus, the total cost of air distribution also includes installation labor (typically 5 times as much as the material costs), wasted energy from leak-prone systems (often 20-30% after 10 years from start up), and increased energy consumption to compensate for pressure drops (7% for every 1 barg drop).
